Bought this model over six years ago and it's still doing it's job. Purchased another one for my office. It's quiet, efficient and compact.
This sharpener is superior to any other product out there. People ask me if I am Mac or PC, I tell the HB. I also teach sketching at a world renowned art college. Graphite on Vellum.
Yes they can break now and again, but for less than twenty bucks you can afford to replace it if it does. Countless revisions. I can go through a couple of pencils a day. I make a living with wood barrel soft graphite pencils. It is rumored that this product is being discontinued. If you do break a point on a Prisma pencil the point will stay stuck between the gears and you will not be able to get a point on that pencil unless you insert a harder graphite pencil to drive the wax point through the gears.
This machine has been a staple on every teachers material list. The only battery sharpener sold at our student store.
That is what prompted me to read up on it today. I have used this brand sharpener for many many years, I sketch sets for television commercials.
It is such a joy to use that it is worth replacing time and time again. Compact, quiet, powerful and makes a sharp point time after time.
It is also the only machine I know that will cut soft wax color pencils and rarely breaking the point. The one I have now is about two years old.
I found a site that has it in stock and I will buy a few to make sure I have one to rely on for years to come.I have not found another battery sharpener that can measure up to this machine.
I am getting ready to purchase my third one and it isn't because there is anything wrong with my other 2, I just need another one in a different location. Lastly, I believe the mechanism used to sharpen pencils is WAY better than those other cheap sharpeners that use the straight "razor" blades.
I do not know what is wrong with the other reviewer's sharpeners, unless they are somehow not using it correctly, but I've had mine for well over 10 years with NO problems. It's true - this is by far the very best quality battery pencil sharpener I have ever owned or used.
Third, it's quite sleek looking - best looking design for a pencil sharpener I've ever seen and/or used. I prefer this model and type because for one thing, it is of great quality & very durable.
Second it is a good brand - Panasonic. I don't know what you call the type of mechanism it uses, but it is exactly like those old fashioned pencil sharpeners that used to be bolted to the wall or table in the classrooms, back in the day.
This is really a great, if not the very Best pencil sharpener around - even after 10+ years.
When it died I was lost and couldn't find a replacement, the brands that were out there were cheap garbage. I had a Panasonic battery operated pencil sharpener for years and loved it. It did as good a job as the expensive electric commercial units. I was lucky to find this one and I LOVE it. Great price and great performance.
This sharpener is an ideal size and weight. The motor ran but the blade stopped turning. It does a great job sharpening and has plenty of power. I was very happy with it until it broke. I opened it up to find that the teeth had broken off of a cheap little white plastic gear wheel inside. It's useless now.
